! HEY WAIT !

before we actually start, i want everyone to know that this carrd was made by someone who is neurodivergent.

i'm using stardust crusaders and diamond is unbreakable [part 3 and part 4] for reference, so SPOILERS AHEAD.

i know what i'm talking about since i do some of these things as a neurodivergent individual, but alas, if you disagree with my points, please be respectful. it's ridiculous fighting over whether a fictional character is neurodivergent or not. if you don't think he is autistic and find someone who does, please let them be and don't go out of your way to harass them. they're probably autistic themselves. do not be a douche. jotaro is fictional, he won't be offended if a kid on the internet says that he's autistic, trust me.

1. communication

if you know the character, you are aware that he's not very communicative. he's not good with words and definitely not good at understanding other people. he prefers acting to speaking, which is a big autistic trait. however, his actions are often misunderstood and he comes off as rude, which is yet another autistic trait. his character profile is a very good reference.

"personality: jotaro doesn't think it's necessary to deliberately show emotions. he assumes that anyone can tell what he's feeling just by looking at him. sometimes it causes misunderstandings between people. people often think he is cold and rebellious, and doesn't care about anything."

another very good example is his interactions with his mom, holly.

of course, we cannot excuse THIS behaviour. he's being an angsty teenager who doesn't do emotions.
"gwa gwa i hate my mom" type beat, you know?
HOWEVER.
while he does not express that through words, jotaro really REALLY cares about his mom, which is pretty much the plot of stardust crusaders. his love and care for his mother. i'm pretty sure that he wouldn't have gone to egypt with his grandfather and avdol (which at the time, was a complete stranger) to defeat this random guy named DIO, if his mother wasn't extremely sick, which brings me to my second point.

2. routine

you might be asking yourself what i mean by routine. this point will be extremely brief, but it's something we just can't ignore.
routine, for an autistic person, is really important. every day has to be similar to the other, and if that routine is broken, neurodivergent people will most likely notice the change and will feel bothered by it.

when holly gets sick and fails to give jotaro a morning kiss like she does everyday, he notices and wonders to himself why that didn't play out like it usually does.

3. sensory

now i want to talk about sensory.

what is sensory?
sensory is relating to sensation or the physical senses; transmitted or perceived by the senses.

and now, sensory overload
sensory overload occurs when one or more of the body's senses experiences over-stimulation from the environment. there are many environmental elements that affect an individual. examples of these elements are urbanization, crowding, noise, mass media, technology, and the explosive growth of information.

now, where am i getting at? simple.

one of the first scenes we see jotaro in is when he's walking to school and a group of girls spot him. they started crowding him and began talking at the same time, rather loudly. he gets really overwhelmed by their voices overlapping and eventually yells at them to shut up.
he only yells after the onslaught of stimuli begins, and you can see him become more and more bothered as the stimuli keeps going.

you could look at this and think that he's just being an angsty teen again, but it happens in diamond is unbreakable, in which he's an adult (28 years old)

4. stimming and comfort items

right. let's talk about this.
stimming is something that everyone does, that's normal. leg bouncing, nail-biting, humming, finger-tapping, it's all completely normal. however, neurodivergent people are known for stimming, because we need to do it more regularly. (seriously, when i cant do it i feel like im going to combust because i need to regulate my senses and stimming helps me express my emotions better too)

something that we see jotaro do a lot is tipping his hat. it can be a comfort motion, because i think that his hats are comfort items (i mean, why else would he wear the same outfits since fucking high school), but it also can be his way of expressing anxiousness, embarrassment, since he doesn't know how to do it any other way, and it can also be used to avoid eye contact, which is something that autistic people do.

speaking of tipping his hat, let's talk about his notorious phrase "yare yare daze"

it rolls off the tongue quite nicely, and something that i've noticed about it is how he says that when he doesn't know what to say and repeats it a lot, even if it doesn't make sense in the context of the conversation.

now, i wanna talk about his stand, star platinum, and how "ora!" can be considered a vocal stim.

stands are a manifestation of the user's authentic self. if jotaro has autistic traits, then so does star platinum. i believe that the only thing he says (ora!) can be considered a vocal stim.

now the ones that can be overlooked.

fist clenching, along with lip biting and jaw clenching are stims. they're ways to convey emotions like fear, anger and anxiousness, but, in my opinion, fist clenching is more prominent, he does that more often and it offers him deep pressure input. it helps him regulate his senses.

thank u so much for taking the time out of your day to read this !! if i missed anything, please contact me, i'll leave out both my twitter accounts so you are able to dm me and we can discuss things :]

any hate will be blocked. again, this is harmless and jotaro is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER, he won't punch a hole in a drywall and cry because of this carrd.
